So You Want to Learn CSS? Books That Can Help
November 2nd, 2006
Occasionally, I receive email from budding Web designers moving into this profession from other industries like graphic design or software engineering. I’m creating this post as a holding place for my recommendations on books and other resources. I’ll be adding to it from time to time.
My Top 5 CSS Design Book Recommendations
While there are many excellent books on the topic, these are included here either because of exceptional clarity, design aesthetics or practical advice given. I’ve tested these books and found them to be the real thing.
- The Zen of CSS Design: Visual Enlightenment for the Web. This is excellent for inspiration.
- Bulletproof Web Design: Improving flexibility and protecting against worst-case scenarios with XHTML and CSS. The best book to learn the reasons for the new CSS/XHTML design approach. Also includes very good examples and compelling graphic design.
- CSS Mastery: Advanced Web Standards Solutions. The most advanced book on the topic. The best discussion of CSS bugs and their causes.
- stylin’ with CSS: A Designer’s Guide. An excellent beginner’s text on designing with CSS/XHTML.
